Meet the StaffHub
Do you have customer service, service desk or helpdesk in your company? If yes, what about your plans for those people? Do you use Excel, or some portal solution like SharePoint and some list/calendar in it? Or do you plan this in the Project Server? What about the access for all those workers and licenses for them? OK, imagine, that you would like to make activities like:
Planning of shifts
Plan all the work for those employees
Provide some team workspace for them
Requirements should be to make super-easy portal, not some hardcore modern SharePoint, Project Online or SAP. So, this is the reason, why Microsoft creates StaffHub. And the latest version finally looks perfect.
What you can do here? Schedule & Task management – you can plan separate teams, you can plan each day, each week activities, you can easily create activities in new week based on previous by using one click / one button. You can prepare platform for communication and for community as everyone can easily access StaffHub via laptop or smartphone. Also, you can manage communication like private 1:1 as well as share all the materials and news with all the colleagues in the team. I asked to myself what if we already have Yammer? Was this be channel numero 150? Nope Yammer integration is already confirmed and it will be soon. You can manage trainings and onboarding process. Just imagine automatically managed onboard required videos about specific team, area, warehouse etc. In the background you can manage also all the API & Business Integrations. What about the integration with HR/Payroll/LOB Systems or for example PowerApps? It is possible to export shifts, import members etc. REST API, which you can test is https://api.manage.staffhub.office.com
I tried to manage really simple scenario last week just for quick preview/demo and it was like supereasy. May main products are reeeealy more sophisticated, so maybe this was also the part of why I was surprised but as I said in the beginning, if you have some smaller teams, customer service, or servicedesk, take a look on the pricing and maybe manage this instead of building own solution on SharePoint or in the Excel….
Features for employees
Like many other workforce apps, StaffHub allows workers to :
- View their shifts on the web or on their mobile phones
- Put in requests to swap shifts
- View other workers scheduled for the same same shifts
- Submit requests for time off, sick leave and vacations
Features for managers
With StaffHub, managers can:
- Create, update and manage shifts (such as approving a shift swap or vacation)
- Color code, label and add notes to different types of shifts
- Send content and files to their team, including PDFs, bulletins and videos
- Send messages to individual employees and create group chats
Although I admire how Microsoft has created StaffHub, I wonder just how many tenants will use it. After all, not every company employs the kind of shift-based deskless worker that Microsoft is targeting. However, even if the overall percentage is low, the sheer size of Office 365 and the diversity of organizations that use the service means that the number is likely to be in the tens of thousands. That would be enough to make any other software company to be happy with their success.
So, what do you think?
